Store tools where authorized staff can reach them without crossing the very route that may need clearing. Keep the station dry and out of circulation paths. Identify who has access and how missing supplies are reported. A locked shed is only useful if the key holder is available.
Stock the shovel types, spreader and approved treatment products appropriate to the property. Retain labels and handling instructions. Keep incompatible materials separate according to their instructions. Do not refill an unlabelled container and expect the next person to know what it contains.
Check handles, blades, wheels and closures. Replace damaged tools before they are needed. Review the route plan, contact list and protective equipment with the people assigned to the task. Equipment should be used only by people able and prepared to operate it appropriately.
Clean and dry tools as their instructions require. Record supply use and replenish deliberately instead of waiting until a container is empty. Keep inspection records with the property’s winter plan. A simple station checklist makes it easier for a different staff member to take over.
